Joining our program means joining a community that will do whatever it takes to help you succeed - now and in the future.

Next One Up recruits young men from all over Baltimore who:

  • Are currently in middle or high school

  • Attend a public or private school in Baltimore

  • Have an interest in sports, or the potential to be a varsity-level athlete

  • Come from a low- to moderate-income background

  • Display potential as a leader, both in the classroom, on the field or in the community

  • Have never been expelled from school

  • May be college bound, and who may be a first-generation college goer 

  • Are in need of a mentor

Admissions Process

Fill out the online application here and upload all relevant documents

Interview

NOU admissions staff will conduct an interview with select applicants and their parent/guardian

Shadow

Following a successful interview, candidates will shadow a full day of Sunday programming to get a clear picture of NOU in action

Trial period

After a positive experience at shadow day, candidates will be invited to join the program for a one-month trial period

5
Acceptance

Complete the trial period and you’ll gain final acceptance to NOU where you’ll participate in a full orientation process with other new members

Program expectations

By joining Next One Up, you’ll commit to:

  • Participating in year-round programming as a middle and high school student, typically 2-3 days/week

  • Joining our 5-week summer program each summer as a middle and high school student 

  • Maintaining a strong GPA and trying your hardest in school

  • Joining 1-2 sports teams at your school as a way to practice leadership skills 

  • Showing up to programming on-time and with a positive attitude

  • Putting in the effort required to improve and challenging yourself every day
