Next One Up recruits young men from all over Baltimore who:
Are currently in middle or high school
Attend a public or private school in Baltimore
Have an interest in sports, or the potential to be a varsity-level athlete
Come from a low- to moderate-income background
Display potential as a leader, both in the classroom, on the field or in the community
Have never been expelled from school
May be college bound, and who may be a first-generation college goer
Are in need of a mentor

Admissions Process

Fill out the online application here and upload all relevant documents

Interview
NOU admissions staff will conduct an interview with select applicants and their parent/guardian
3
Shadow
Following a successful interview, candidates will shadow a full day of Sunday programming to get a clear picture of NOU in action
4
Trial period
After a positive experience at shadow day, candidates will be invited to join the program for a one-month trial period
5
Acceptance
Complete the trial period and you’ll gain final acceptance to NOU where you’ll participate in a full orientation process with other new members

Program expectations
By joining Next One Up, you’ll commit to:
Participating in year-round programming as a middle and high school student, typically 2-3 days/week
Joining our 5-week summer program each summer as a middle and high school student
Maintaining a strong GPA and trying your hardest in school
Joining 1-2 sports teams at your school as a way to practice leadership skills
Showing up to programming on-time and with a positive attitude
Putting in the effort required to improve and challenging yourself every day

At this time we only serve young men.

The program takes place outside of school hours- middle schoolers meet after school two days/week, and high schoolers meet on Sundays during the school year. In addition, we operate a five-week summer camp each summer.

NOU holds all programming at our headquarters, Base Camp at Belvedere Square, 5911 York Road, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21212

Young men who attend public or private schools in Baltimore City or County and who are in the 6th-9th grade are welcome to apply.

NOU staff communicate with participants and families through the Remind App, which all participants and guardians are required to download and use regularly.

We currently serve 176 young men in Baltimore, and cap each class size at 25 participants. Each year we recruit more promising young people. Unfortunately, we receive many more applications than we can admit to the program.
